Creamy Mushroom and Asparagus Chicken Penne: A Restaurant-Quality Dinner at Home

There is something incredibly satisfying about a pasta dish that feels like a gourmet meal but comes together easily in your own kitchen. This Creamy Mushroom and Asparagus Chicken Penne is exactly that—a rich, comforting blend of tender chicken, sautéed mushrooms, crisp asparagus, and a velvety Parmesan cream sauce that is sure to become a family favorite.

To prepare this delight, begin by boiling 8 ounces of penne pasta in salted water until al dente. While the pasta cooks, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season 2 thinly sliced chicken breasts with salt and pepper, and cook them until they are beautifully golden brown and fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.

In the same skillet, sauté 1 cup of sliced mushrooms for a few minutes, then add 1 bunch of trimmed asparagus and 2 cloves of minced garlic. Once the vegetables are tender but still crisp, it is time to build the sauce. Reduce the heat and pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and ½ cup of chicken broth, making sure to scrape up any flavorful browned bits from the pan. Stir in ½ cup of grated Parmesan cheese and let the sauce simmer until it thickens into a creamy, luxurious consistency. If you find the sauce gets a little too thick, just add a splash of your reserved pasta water to loosen it up.

Finally, return the chicken to the pan and toss in the cooked penne. Stir everything together so that every piece of pasta and chicken is perfectly coated in that savory, garlic-infused sauce. Garnish with a bit of fresh parsley for a burst of color, and serve it hot with an extra sprinkle of Parmesan on top.

This dish is wonderful on its own, but it pairs beautifully with a side of warm garlic bread or a crisp green salad tossed in a light lemon vinaigrette. It’s elegant enough for guests but simple enough for a busy weeknight—a true win-win for any home cook!
